Rhinoceros Tap

Within the pages of Rhinoceros Tap are clever songs about random oddities of life. One particular sing-a-long is an ode to lonely peas.

Apparently no one wants to eat them.

Last night we had peas for dinner. To my amusement, my son requested more. Since this isn’t something he typically does, I asked if he especially liked his peas this evening.

His surprising response?

“I don’t want dem to be wone-wee. So I’m going to eat dem!”

I just love moments such as these! His little voice gives me perspective into his thoughts, and how great to hear him connect with literature! I absolutely find the world from his eyes to be most amazing and beautiful.

    Well, I haven’t read this book, but I have a pea ditty of my own that my grandpa used to recite to us whenever we had peas. It’s a little poem by Ogden Nash–
    I eat my peas with honey;
    I’ve done it all my life.
    It makes the peas taste funny,
    But it keeps them on the knife.
