Adult roller skating has to be even more fun than when I was a child. I know this because today was quite the skating experience.
Thanks to one of my current third grade parents, we enjoyed a class skating party at a place called Funway. I mean, how could you not have fun? It’s embedded within the location itself!
Throughout our time together, I played four square, did the Hokey Pokey, and even rolled around to the Chicken Dance. Complete with a blue slushee and salted pretzel, a great time was had. This was also a nice opportunity to just hang out with my students and their parents without talking “shop”. It’s rare we have these moments to just interact without a scheduled school event or academic conversation on the agenda, so I typically find the time to carpe diem these gatherings.
Of course we had to stop by the arcade after skating, as my son was also with me. Being a gamer myself, I managed to find one that peaked my interest called Kung Fu Panda. Apparently you win by punching a variety of circular targets based upon the screen’s prompt. On my first try I scored 500 tickets! Instead of trying again, I cashed out and gave the tickets to my son who in turn had no problem spending them.
All I can say is that today was truly a fun day at Funway.
Isn’t fun to “be a kid” sometimes. I can’t remember the last time I put any sort of skates on. I bet I’d fall but would love to try…maybe next weekend!

It is great how having kids or being with kids helps keeps us young. It sounds like you had a blast. Thanks for sharing a little bit of your day with us.

You are a coordinated, brave woman. I was never a good skater in 7th grade. What a neat group- I try to go to sport activities that my students are involved in, but what a great experience to have your class there!

I love that you spent a day with your parents and students in such a fun way. When we talk about building relationships with our students, this is a wonderful way to start!
